Traditional foods are part of the local Zambian way of life. Most value systems around traditional foods such as sharing and celebrations reflect the hospitality well-being of the Zambian society. With development and rapid expansion of the hospitality industry, traditional foods can play a key role in emphasizing Zambia's hospitable value systems in the sector of Ethno-tourism thereby contributing to economic development.

The Lusaka National Museum conducted a children's educational project of documenting traditional foods within Lusaka and Chongwe areas. The aim of the study was to educate the children on the value of traditional foods to the Zambian everyday way of life and the need to promote it. Eighty (80) children participated in the project in which tours to markets and rural villages of Chongwe were conducted.

The following were some of the outputs of the initiative:

"3 exhibitions at Lusaka National Museum on traditional Zambian foods." "3 annual national cooking competitions on traditional foods." "A publication on Traditional Foods and Cookery in Zambia."
