Research in the section has recently concentrated on the distribution of snake and lizard species in Zambia.

Research in the section has concentrated on the taxonomy and ecology of termites, ants and moths.

The section has focused on the study of the distribution of birds in Zambia,  networking with local birding societies  to generate records for the distribution of Birds in Zambia.

The research focus of the section is on the distribution and ecology of small mammals particularly bats and small carnivores.

Research interests include the study of the fecundity rates of fish in the middle Zambezi River. The target fish group are the cichlids (breams) which are the most famous catch for household consumption and commercial basis.

Recent research in the section focused on the study of regeneration patterns in harvested hardwood forests especially the Teak Forests.

The section focuses on the collection and documentation of cultural heritage of the different ethnic groups in Zambia.
